What we collect when you use WiFi sold through ANS Network or run an operator account, why we hold it, and who else sees it.
Last updated 3 October 2026
Two different relationships. If you bought WiFi at a hotspot, the operator of that hotspot decides what happens to your details and ANS Network holds them on that operator's behalf. If you run an operator account with us, ANS Network is responsible for your account data directly.
1. Who we are
ANS Network is a billing and access-control platform for internet service providers and WiFi operators in Ghana and beyond, operated by AJ IT Solutions Group. You can reach us about anything on this page at [email protected].
2. What we collect, and why
If you buy WiFi at a hotspot
| What | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Your phone number | To identify your account across devices, send you the code that proves the number is yours, and tell you when your bundle is running low. |
| Your device address (MAC) | It is what lets your device onto the network and what stops someone else using your bundle. |
| Session records: when you connected, how long, how much data | To meter what you bought and to stop access when it is used up. This is the record we would check if you told us a bundle ran out too fast. |
| Payment reference and amount | To match your payment to your access and to answer disputes. |
We never receive your card or mobile money PIN. Payment details are entered with the payment provider, not with us. We are told only that a payment with a given reference succeeded or failed.
If you run an operator account
- Your name, business name, email address and phone number.
- Your sites, routers and the settings you configure.
- Your sales, wallet balance and the charges we bill you.
- Records of who on your team did what, so an action can be traced to a person.
3. Who else sees it
- The operator whose WiFi you used. They can see your number, your balance and your sessions - they are selling you the service.
- Payment providers (Paystack, Hubtel) to take payment. They receive the amount, a reference and a placeholder identifier.
- Message providers (Termii, Arkesel, mNotify and, where enabled, WhatsApp) to deliver the messages you receive. They see your number and the message.
- Nobody else. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising.
4. How long we keep it
- Session and usage records: 24 months, so disputes and compensation claims can be checked.
- Sales and payment records: 6 years, because the law requires it.
- Support messages: 24 months.
- Phone numbers collected during promos: until you ask us to remove them.
5. Messages you receive
We send messages about the service itself - a verification code, a low-balance warning, a receipt. If an operator sends you an offer and you do not want another, tell them or tell us: the number is added to a do-not- message list and no further offers are sent to it. Verification codes and balance warnings are part of the service and cannot be switched off while you are using it.
6. Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected, object to how it is used, and ask for it to be deleted where we have no legal reason to keep it. Write to us and we will answer within 30 days.
You can also ask for a copy of what you gave us in a form you can take elsewhere, and withdraw consent you have given. These are the rights set out in modern data-protection law, including the GDPR, and we apply that standard to everyone we hold data about rather than only where it is compulsory. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the data-protection authority for the place you live.
7. Where your data is held
Our servers are in Europe (Germany) and our payment, message and email providers operate in Ghana, Nigeria and elsewhere. Where data leaves Ghana, it goes to providers who are contractually required to protect it to the same standard described here.
8. Keeping it safe
Connections to our service are encrypted. Credentials and provider keys are encrypted at rest. Access to customer data is restricted to the operator who sold the service and to the small number of our staff who need it to run the platform, and that access is logged.
9. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so on this page and, for operators, by email. The date at the top always shows when it last changed.
